Subjects covered: NYPL Digital Gallery provides access to over 275,000 images digitized from primary sources and printed rarities in the collections of The New York Public Library, including illuminated manuscripts, historical maps, vintage posters, rare prints and photographs, illustrated books, printed ephemera, and more. Images in the new digital gallery include Civil War photographs, illuminated manuscripts, Japanese prints, early American maps, illustrations relating to the American Revolution, and archival photographs of New York City buildings and streetscapes. The online database allows searches using a number of criteria, including category, description, and author's name. An additional 225,000 images that have already been digitized are expected to be added to the database.
